Kgathatso Tlhakudi is a Deputy Director General, Manufacturing Enterprises at Department of Public Enterprises responsible for shareholder oversight over Denel Group of Companies, South African Forestry Company Limited and Alexkor Diamond Mining Company. The main thrust of his responsibility on ensuring that that the State Owned Corporations capabilities are leveraged to ensure increased advanced manufacturing. Towards this objective, Kgathatso has been allocated the responsibility of driving the SOC industrialisation strategy with greater emphasis on SOC-SOC collaboration. Major programmes that have materialised from the initiative are Alexkor’s entry into the coal mining space in support of ensuring national energy security, conceptualisation of a world class MRO centre at OR Tambo International in support of the Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis concept, conceptualisation of a technical entrepreneur programme in support of the black industrialists development programme. Kgathatso holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Masters in Business Administration degree from the University of Cape Town. He has also had further studies in Air Transport Management at the Royal Aeronautical Society, Oxford, England; and has been a Gatsby Scholar at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge, England.
